Relationships are Powerful Influences on your Nervous System

Your relationships are one of the most powerful influences on your nervous system. They can shape you for greater resilience, emotional regulation & connection, or they can trigger survival responses and increase emotional reactivity.

The signals sent from someone else’s nervous system to yours will either invite regulation or they will increase reactivity. In each relationship your nervous system is learning about the world and either moving towards connection or moving towards protection. This is why your relationships are one of the most potent influences on your nervous system.

Co-regulation is a biological essential - to live well you need safe relationships where there’s attunement. This causes a reciprocal regulation of yours and another person’s nervous system, and that creates an upward spiral of increasing vagal tone (the function of your vagus nerve).

When your vagal tone increases your emotional and your physical health will flourish because it:

  • releases beneficial hormones
  • enhances your immune system
  • improves digestion
  • helps with learning
  • critical thinking & productivity (flow state)
  • makes life more relaxing & enjoyable
  • it optimises the entire human experience
I’ve dedicated over a decade to simplifying complex concepts, and now, I’m here to guide you step-by-step into applying nervous system regulation to your own emotional and physical health, and also if you want to help others do the same.
